About Me

me1

Hey there! My name is Valerie and this is my blog about my journey to living a healthier lifestyle!

I’m a 4th year university student majoring in psychology. I graduate in December and I’m hoping to attend grad school in a year or two for clinical psychology. Until then, I’m going to take some time to explore other career options, experience a bit of the “real world” and, of course, make money to pay for all those application fees and study for the Graduate Record Examinations (GREs)! Of course, I’m also going to enjoy some time off from midterms, papers and finals!

I live in southern Ontario, in a city for the first time in my life. I’ve always lived in the country outside of small towns – we’re talking 30,000 people at the most! Let me tell you, it was a big change but I’ve grown to enjoy it! There’s so much to do and I don’t have to drive 20 minutes just to get within the city limits!

Some of my interests include music (I play clarinet and flute and enjoy almost all genres), reading, walking, running, kayaking, playing video games, hockey (even though I’m a terrible skater), baking, cooking, psychology, science, and the environment.

img_3944I currently live with my boyfriend of five and a half years, Josh, and another roommate. Josh and I met in high school and started dating in grade twelve. Now, we go to the same university, although we’re in different years with different class interests. During my quest for a healthier lifestyle, Josh has been the best! Even though he doesn’t need to watch his weight, he eats healthy with me about 70% of the time (what a sweetheart) and is always there to cheer me on!

And there you have it – me in a nutshell! Anything else? Just ask!

    Hey!
Wow we sound similar…I too majored in psychology and went to grad school to get my MA in social psyc (research not clinical though). The GRE’s were tough and I am so glad I am done with them. My walls used to be covered in words and definitions…lol. I am sure you will get through it with flying colours!!!!

Everyone I know that’s taken the GREs said the same thing – they’re just glad it’s over with! But I think I’ll do fine. I’ve heard that preparing and actually studying is key and if you do that, you should do well enough.
I love social psych.. it’s probably my second favourite area. I have a seminar on social cognition this term and it’s really interesting! If I was going to spend the rest of my life doing research, it would definitely be in the area of social.
